Babybrabbel miljoenen jaren oud?

CNN:

"(...) Dean Falk, professor of anthropology at Florida State University, says the universal phenomenon of mothers talking to their babies may be linked to two other crucial steps in human evolution -- walking upright and the development of bigger brains. (...)"

Falk maakt haar stelling niet hard met fysiek bewijs, maar daar is het ook een these voor. De tekst lijkt dan ook eerder bedoeld om kortzichtigheid bij haar collega's weg te nemen, aldus de laatste zinnen van haar stelling:

"(...) It is hoped that readers will consider the ideas developed in this paper as possible alternatives to suggestions that language could not have emerged from an earlier primate communication system (...)"
